About the theme

We invite students to explore the theme "Reflection" through writing. You can interpret it however you like — a memory, a mirror, a moment of change, or something entirely your own. We want to see your creativity!

Accepted genres

Poetry
Up to 40 lines
Prose
Up to 500 words
Short Fiction
Up to 500 words
Personal Narrative
Up to 500 words

All submissions must be appropriate for a school audience.

How to submit

  • Format: Google Doc
  • Font: Something easy to read, like Times New Roman or Arial, size 11–14
  • Document title: LastName_FirstName_TitleOfThePiece
  • Only one submission per person is allowed

Contest rules

  • All participants must be ages 13–18 and currently enrolled in middle or high school
  • One submission per person
  • All submissions must be original — no plagiarism and no AI-generated work
  • Your piece must not be published anywhere else. Simultaneous submissions to other contests are allowed — just let us know if your work gets recognized elsewhere so we can take it off our list
  • All work must be appropriate and respectful for a school audience — hateful or explicit content is not acceptable
  • Late submissions will not be accepted
  • Judging is anonymous, and all judging decisions are final
